History
The Class 73 Electro-Diesel locomotive, is a very versatile locomotive which can run from either an electrified third rail, or via the onboard diesel engine which every locomotive is fitted with. Built in the early 60's, they were the most sucessful locomotive of their type, as as much many of them can still be seen working on the national network today. Many of those withdrawn can now be found on the preserved lines up and down the UK, running mainly on their onboard diesel generators. |
